A thank you note!

I received this amazing note from Elizabeth McCullough, who is the co-event coordinator for the Oral Cancer Foundation 5K walk in West Florida, to whom I donated a 5x7 print - thought I would share it here!

I started following Katie after I saw her photo of a lonely road. To me it looked like she had filmed it in the lost art of black and white photography. I complimented her on her work and learned that it wasn't shot in black and white but just how the day and light was. I was hooked on her skill as a photographer at that moment.

I asked Katie I think around September of 2016 if she ever donated her prints to be raffled off? Her answer was she had never done so but was willing to donate to my cause. Now I know you are wonder just what cause that is? It is the Oral Cancer Foundation. Now a little bit of information on this organization.

The Oral Cancer Foundation is a national public service, non-profit entity designed to reduce suffering and save lives through prevention, education, research, advocacy, and patient support activities. Oral cancer is the largest group of those cancers which fall into the head and neck cancer category. Common names for it include such things as mouth cancer, tongue cancer, tonsil cancer, and throat cancer. Approximately 49,750 people in the US will be newly diagnosed with oral cancer in 2017. This includes those cancers that occur in the mouth itself, in the very back of the mouth known as the oropharynx, and on the exterior lip of the mouth. For more than a decade there has been an increase in the rate of occurrence of oral and oropharyngeal cancers. www.oralcancerfoundation.org

Who am i ? My name is Elizabeth McCullough, I am a co event coordinator for the Oral Cancer Foundation 5K walk/run for Awareness West Coast Florida. We have our event every April so for this years event I was looking for different items to be placed in our event day raffle. That is why I asked Katie to help out with a donated print. This years event was a great success with the addition of non dental raffle items like Katie's print and the awesome support of the the St. Petersburg College of Dental Hygienist students, we were able to raise $7009.00 which put us at a 47% of our goal.

What makes the OCF different from other non profit organizations is that only necessary items are paid for at each event, items like tables and tents for our dentist to perform free oral cancer screenings, a timing company for our runners, the medals for our top runners in each age group male and female, our balloon arch and if we do not get enough water donated water for the walkers and runners. That is it. All other items must be donated. By keeping fund raising event cost down that allows for the money to go to the following: research for cures, education, support for survivors,  and raising awareness of how devastating this cancer is.

I want to give a big heart felt thank you to Katie for her donated print.

Elizabeth McCullough

Elizabeth has been a strong supporter of my work, often sharing my posts via my Facebook page, so I want to give her a heart felt thank you as well! I was very happy to donate to such a worthwhile cause. If you have a cause that you'd like me to donate a print to, please feel free to give me a shout.

Please visit  www.oralcancerfoundation.org for more information, and to help out if you can. Also, be sure to get checked once a year for oral cancer by your PCP or dentist.

Blue Jays Spring Training

One more super awesome thing I got to do while I was in Florida was attend my very first Spring Training game. I've been wanting to do this for years, but timing has never worked out in the past. And even though tickets to this game were sold out before I even left Toronto, I was so thankful that a lovely lady from an online group I belong to was able to hook me up with these super sweet tickets.

Can't wait for regular season to start, this week!

Let's go Blue Jays! #LetsRise

Magical Magic Kingdom!

Anyone who knows me knows that it's no secret - Disney World is my favourite place on earth! I even used to have an annual pass, back when I lived in Florida. These days, I have to snag opportunities to visit when they arrive, and one such opportunity happened to arrive last week, when I was in Florida for March Break.

One of my favourite things about being at Disney World, and specifically the Magic Kingdom, is that no matter where you look, you're surrounded by beauty and happiness. And one of my favourite things to do while I'm at the park is to try and capture those moments on film (or rather, on my digital media card... but you know what I mean!)

Here's some of my favourite shots taken at the Festival of Fantasy parade. (Look at how damn cute Tinker Bell is!! She's my spirit sister!) :)

Hope you enjoyed a little peek at my day at the Magic Kingdom! Have you visited recently? Leave a message (or maybe a photo!) in the comments and let me know what was your favourite part!

Happy Holidays!

I've been back from Newfoundland for less than a week, and that means it's Christmas on speed in my world.  The past week has been filled with visits with friends and family, shopping, checking out the Toronto Christmas Market in the Distillery District, wrapping, crafting... and of course, putting up my tree!

I love my tree so much! Last year, I bought a white tree, and it suits my apartment and my personality perfectly.  Anyone else out there decorate using non-traditional colours?
