2017: The Summer of Concerts!

So, I've already made this declaration on Facebook - but I'll make it blog official too: I hereby declare 2017 to be the summer of concerts! It's been a while since I've had a summer in Toronto, and I am fully prepared to make the most of it. I am going to live it up and do exactly what I love doing most, all summer long - seeing as much live music as possible. Of course, this means being crafty with my budget, but I've already had some good success with free shows, promo codes and Groupons!

Here's some of my shots from the last week of concerts:

I will bring my camera along to every show possible, though most shows prohibit detached lenses, so I'm stuck with my iphone at best. The above were Moist and Danny Michel at the Sound of Music festival in Burlington, and Danny Michel at the Roncy Rocks street festival.

High Park Cherry Blossoms

Hello, my friends!

I haven't posted any photos here in a while, but if you've been by my instagram page lately, you'll note that it's been much more active. I guess I should remember to share the pretty pictures on my blog too!

So, let's take a little flashback to the beginning of spring. The cherry blossoms are long gone now, and the weather is getting warmer (and rainier!) in Toronto... but back in April, they were in full bloom, and they were absolutely beautiful. Here's a little peek at the beauty that nature provided Toronto in early spring:

If you're interested in any of these photos as prints, just drop me a line either through the comments or by email, and I'll upload them to my storefront on Imagekind. From there, you can choose any size print, and if you want it matted or framed - everything is to your specification!

A thank you note!

I received this amazing note from Elizabeth McCullough, who is the co-event coordinator for the Oral Cancer Foundation 5K walk in West Florida, to whom I donated a 5x7 print - thought I would share it here!

I started following Katie after I saw her photo of a lonely road. To me it looked like she had filmed it in the lost art of black and white photography. I complimented her on her work and learned that it wasn't shot in black and white but just how the day and light was. I was hooked on her skill as a photographer at that moment.

I asked Katie I think around September of 2016 if she ever donated her prints to be raffled off? Her answer was she had never done so but was willing to donate to my cause. Now I know you are wonder just what cause that is? It is the Oral Cancer Foundation. Now a little bit of information on this organization.

The Oral Cancer Foundation is a national public service, non-profit entity designed to reduce suffering and save lives through prevention, education, research, advocacy, and patient support activities. Oral cancer is the largest group of those cancers which fall into the head and neck cancer category. Common names for it include such things as mouth cancer, tongue cancer, tonsil cancer, and throat cancer. Approximately 49,750 people in the US will be newly diagnosed with oral cancer in 2017. This includes those cancers that occur in the mouth itself, in the very back of the mouth known as the oropharynx, and on the exterior lip of the mouth. For more than a decade there has been an increase in the rate of occurrence of oral and oropharyngeal cancers. www.oralcancerfoundation.org

Who am i ? My name is Elizabeth McCullough, I am a co event coordinator for the Oral Cancer Foundation 5K walk/run for Awareness West Coast Florida. We have our event every April so for this years event I was looking for different items to be placed in our event day raffle. That is why I asked Katie to help out with a donated print. This years event was a great success with the addition of non dental raffle items like Katie's print and the awesome support of the the St. Petersburg College of Dental Hygienist students, we were able to raise $7009.00 which put us at a 47% of our goal.

What makes the OCF different from other non profit organizations is that only necessary items are paid for at each event, items like tables and tents for our dentist to perform free oral cancer screenings, a timing company for our runners, the medals for our top runners in each age group male and female, our balloon arch and if we do not get enough water donated water for the walkers and runners. That is it. All other items must be donated. By keeping fund raising event cost down that allows for the money to go to the following: research for cures, education, support for survivors,  and raising awareness of how devastating this cancer is.

I want to give a big heart felt thank you to Katie for her donated print.

Elizabeth McCullough

Elizabeth has been a strong supporter of my work, often sharing my posts via my Facebook page, so I want to give her a heart felt thank you as well! I was very happy to donate to such a worthwhile cause. If you have a cause that you'd like me to donate a print to, please feel free to give me a shout.

Please visit  www.oralcancerfoundation.org for more information, and to help out if you can. Also, be sure to get checked once a year for oral cancer by your PCP or dentist.

Blue Jays Spring Training

One more super awesome thing I got to do while I was in Florida was attend my very first Spring Training game. I've been wanting to do this for years, but timing has never worked out in the past. And even though tickets to this game were sold out before I even left Toronto, I was so thankful that a lovely lady from an online group I belong to was able to hook me up with these super sweet tickets.

Can't wait for regular season to start, this week!

Let's go Blue Jays! #LetsRise

Magical Magic Kingdom!

Anyone who knows me knows that it's no secret - Disney World is my favourite place on earth! I even used to have an annual pass, back when I lived in Florida. These days, I have to snag opportunities to visit when they arrive, and one such opportunity happened to arrive last week, when I was in Florida for March Break.

One of my favourite things about being at Disney World, and specifically the Magic Kingdom, is that no matter where you look, you're surrounded by beauty and happiness. And one of my favourite things to do while I'm at the park is to try and capture those moments on film (or rather, on my digital media card... but you know what I mean!)

Here's some of my favourite shots taken at the Festival of Fantasy parade. (Look at how damn cute Tinker Bell is!! She's my spirit sister!) :)

Hope you enjoyed a little peek at my day at the Magic Kingdom! Have you visited recently? Leave a message (or maybe a photo!) in the comments and let me know what was your favourite part!

Happy New Year!

A brand new year... a fresh page... the holidays are over and packed away... a new day begins with good intentions set.

How are you spending your New Year's Day? I had an easy going morning, then took down my tree... and now it's time for pj's, popcorn and Star Wars!

I've been waiting to crack into this bag of popcorn for just the right occasion - I got it free to try from influenster and I am seriously enjoying it right now! I had no idea that caramel and white cheddar could taste so good together.

Of course, the entire bag must be finished tonight, because tomorrow begins the diet and gym routine, as is so common in January!

What are your goals for 2017?

Happy Holidays!

Hope you are all enjoying the holiday season with your friends, families, and loved ones!

Are you looking forward to the New Year? I'm pretty sure about 95% of us can agree that 2016 just needs to go away already. But there had to be a few moments to remember, right?

I whipped up this "2016 memories" sheet for a party that I'm hosting tomorrow for my friends and I - and I thought I'd offer up a PDF version of it here, for anyone who might want to do this between now and New Year's Eve! I bet it would be fun to do with kids :)

Click on the photo to download a high rez PDF, or if that doesn't work, just click here.

Happy New Year!

A+F: First Look

Have you heard of a "First Look" before?  It's when the bride and groom choose to have a private moment before the ceremony, where they see each other for the first time on their wedding day. A & F chose to have a first look, in a beautiful wooded area, and it was so lovely!  Here are some of the shots from that moment :

Pretty cute, right?!

Did you do a first look for your wedding? Would you consider it, after seeing photos like these? Let me know what you think in the comments section below!

Sneak Peek: A + F's wedding pics!

On September 3rd, I had the pleasure of attending and shooting A+F's wedding, whose engagement pictures I shot earlier this year in March. It was such a great wedding, super fun and full of love - all the things weddings should be!

I'm still working hard on editing the thousands of pictures I shot that day - but here's a few sneak preview pictures from the "getting ready" portion of the day!

That's all for now! Hope you enjoyed them.

Don't forget - I currently have a contest running, and there's only two days left to enter! Try your luck.  Check this post for details.

New Contest - win my cottage life print!

To celebrate 1000 followers on Instagram, I'm giving away my "Cottage Life" print to one (or perhaps two!) lucky winners.  It's easy to enter - and the contest is running on both Facebook and Instagram.

To win:

1. Make sure you're following Superflash Photography on Instagram and/or on Facebook

2. Tag a friend on this post who might also want to win a print.  If you're both following at the time of the contest end, you'll both get a print.

3. Share any photo from  Superflash Photography with the hashtag #superflashcontest - Very important, as this is how I will track the entries!

All entries will be put into a random selection draw, and the winner will be announced and contacted by direct message either on Facebook or Instagram on September 30.

Good luck!

Magical Newfoundland

My favourite part about being in Newfoundland for work is getting to go out on photo adventures.  Recently, I had a chance to visit the Twillingate area, and though I've been up there many times before, this time, I darted in and out of a bunch of little coves along the way.  It was amazing to see some new perspectives, in an area that I thought I knew well!

Here's a few shots:

Our Lady Peace: George Street Festival, St. John's, July 28

Back in July, I had the pleasure of attending the George Street Festival in St. John's.  The streets were packed with tonnes of sweaty fans, waiting to relive their teenage memories, or younger folks, experiencing 90's rock for the first time. Our Lady Peace. My absolute, hands-down, favourite band when I was in high school. I would do anything, and go anywhere, for this band. And yet, somehow, this was my first time seeing them out of my home province of Ontario. I was pretty stoked.

The band sounded amazing, and seemed genuinely thrilled to be playing to the large crowd of on-lookers, pouring out a set of mostly singles, with a few newer songs thrown in for good measure.

The absolute best moment though?  Definitely had to be the encore, when suddenly, Raine appeared on the rooftop of one of the bars - The Rock House - located behind the stage, and belted out Starseed from high above the crowd.

This isn't even half of the photos I took... it was just too hard to resist - being up close and seeing my favourite band! Perhaps more to come soon, either here on the blog, or over at my facebook page! Be sure to "like" so you don't miss 'em!

The Trews: George Street Festival, St. John's, July 28

I recently headed down to my first George Street Festival  in beautiful St. John's Newfoundland, to catch my favourite band from my teenage years, Our Lady Peace with The Trews.  Everyone warned me that George Street festival is insane, and they were totally right.  I've never seen that many people on one little street, and it was amazing!! I had so much fun, and was able to shoot from the crowd, and get some pretty decent pics.  Here's some of The Trews:

Hope you enjoyed these shots! Hop on over to the Superflash Photography Facebook page for a few more!

Our Lady Peace photos coming soon!

Happy Canada Day!

On our nation's 149th birthday, I thought I'd commemorate with some of my photos that just speak "Canada" to me.  Happy Canada Day, everyone!

A+F Engagement Shoot, Part 2

So, I'm out here in Newfoundland, and I've been taking lots of amazing photos as I explore new territory... but I knew that before I started editing those, I needed to deliver on the last of the edits for A&F. So, I spent my downtime last night editing away, and came up with a fresh batch of photos of these amazing lovebirds!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again... I can't wait to shoot their wedding in September!

Happy Victoria Day!

Wishing you love and light!  Please stop by my instagram for a new photo daily!

A+F Engagement Shoot

I can't believe it's been over a month now since I posted the sneak peek for A+F's engagement shoot! I meant to post these pictures way sooner, but life sorta sneaked up on me.  I still have a bunch of photos to edit from this series, and I know that A is anxious to see them... I promise, I will get to them soon!

In the meantime... here is a selection of favourites from this shoot! I just love how you can see the love and happiness in their eyes. I can't wait to shoot this wedding in September!

This was just so much fun to shoot, and I feel truly blessed that they are including me in their big day! I love these two!

A+F engagement shoot : sneak peek!

I shot an awesome engagement session for a very dear friend of mine last night. The shoot took place in a crossfit gym, which is where the couple met, and means a lot to them.  It was also a super fun place for me to shoot and explore with the camera (and if I wasn't contending with a shoulder injury right now, I probably would have got them to teach me some tricks on the ropes, because that looked like lots of fun!)

The couple, of course, gets to see their photos first, before I share them... but I can't resist sharing this one gorgeous snap of the back of my camera.

  Look at that stunning ring!
